Where To View The Best Hamptons Jack-o’-Lanterns

There will be many opportunities to admire some of the most imaginative, jaw-dropping pumpkin carvings in the Hamptons this year – socially distanced, of course.

The highly anticipated Bridgehampton Lions’ Pumpkin Carving Contest is still on, but with some modifications. This year’s All Hallows’ Eve festivity will be held at the Bridgehampton Museum grounds (2368 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton). Entries will be on view on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25. Competitors may set up their Jack o’Lantern starting at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and the first lighting and initial judging will take place at 6:00 p.m. The initial lighting concludes at 9:00 p.m. On Sunday, the viewing, as well as late additions will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The second lighting and final judging will take place at 6:00 p.m. and the winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m. The event will conclude at 8:00 pm. Masks are required for anyone entering the grounds and social distancing is encouraged.

Carving must be done at home and competitors may enter three carved creations per person. There is no entry fee. Pumpkins should be brought to the Bridgehampton Museum between 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. This year, there will only be one category – freestyle – for all ages. The Bridgehampton Lions will award ten $100 prizes to the entries that catch the judges’ eyes. For more information, visit bridgehamptonlions.com.

The East Hampton Historical Society is hosting a Halloween Pumpkin Lighting & Carving Contest on Friday, October 30. The Society’s first-ever Pumpkin Carving Contest will take place at Mulford Farm (10 James Lane, East Hampton). Entries must be dropped off between 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will be on display from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There is no fee to enter and categories will include scariest pumpkin and most creative pumpkin, with two age brackets: adults (16+) and juniors (under 15). Those interested in highlighting their work of art in Sag Harbor Historical Society’s annual Annie’s Field of Jack O’Lanterns may drop off finished creations on Friday, October 30 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Once again, the Annie Cooper Boyd House (174 Main Street, Sag Harbor) will be illuminated by the community’s magnificent masterpieces with the Jack O’Lanterns displayed along the porch and fence on Friday and Saturday.
