INTERVIEW: Chris Hudson, Barry’s Vice President Of Curriculum, On The Return Of IRL Classes With Barry’s Outdoors

After a more than four-month hiatus from offering in person classes, Barry’s has launched Barry’s Outdoors at its Southampton outpost. While you still have to wait to get back into the Red Room, the outdoor workouts will provide a just as intense sweat session.

We spoke with Chris Hudson, Vice President of Curriculum, about the latest Barry’s concept, who will be leading the classes, and more.

Tell us about the new Barry’s Outdoors concept and what sessions will entail.

CH: Just like our IRL Barry’s classes and Barry’s At Home, Barry’s Outdoors will feature our signature strength interval training program. Sessions will be 50-minute floor workouts utilizing weights and bands – no treadmill – and everything will be cleaned with hospital-grade, EPA-registered disinfectant. We’ll also be using a silent disco system to be kind to our neighbors. Just bring a mask and yourself!

How will classes differ from the typical Red Room sessions?

CH: Though we’d love to, unfortunately we can’t bring an exact replica of the Red Room outside. So although we’ll be down treadmills and our red mood lighting, it’s still the same great instructors pushing you to be your best, with the same floor exercises – with the same usual alternating muscle focus – that you recognize from normal classes.

How many class-goers will be allowed in each class?

CH: In Southampton there are 38 available spots.

What instructors will be leading the Barry’s Outdoors workouts?

CH: Amber Rees, Lindsey Clayton, Matthew Griffin, Andres Alfaro.

Right now, Barry’s Outdoors is only offered at the Southampton outpost. Any plans to expand to the other Hamptons Barry’s locations?

CH: We’re exploring our options across the Hamptons and NYC!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

CH: For those who don’t wish to work out in person, we’re still offering Barry’s At Home, a “virtual Red Room” that allows Barry’s members to sweat together, live, at home, utilizing Bodyweight, Bands, Weights, Treadmill & Weights, and Ride classes.
