Westhampton resident, artist and President of the Musical Mime Theater, Steven Colucci, is excited to be presenting the 3rd Annual Westhampton Beach Project. It is free to the public. The parking is also free. This event is a combination of music, ballet and modern dance presented to the Westhampton community consisting of a two-day event that will be hosted on the Great Lawn on Main Street in Westhampton Beach, NY on July 30th and 31st beginning at 8:30 PM.
Westhampton resident, artist and President of the Musical Mime Theater, Steven Colucci shared his thoughts about this event. Mr. Colucci has been working in the arts for over 45 years including working closely with the famous Marcel Marceau.
About the Westhampton Beach Project, Steve Colucci said, “It’s a project that who’s concept began in 1968 at Bard College and moved around the country. Then I stopped doing it for 15 years, just to paint, I am an artist. I was also a ballet dancer and did mime. I stopped my career as a dancer, I stopped everything just to paint. About the project, this is our third season, and we will have a V.I.P. tent with all kinds of great food and spirits, plus we are bringing in soloist and stars from American ballet theater. In fact, I believe we will showcase one of the greatest dancers in American theater right now, Aaron Smith from Australia. Then we will present a wonderful lady, Eva Sita who is from West Africa.”
Mr. Colucci is extremely excited about having Frank Sinatra tributer Steven Maglio and the Steve Maglio Orchestra. Colucci said, “He has for the last eighteen years sold out every Saturday night in New York City, now he will out on the great lawn in Westhampton. The show will be for two nights, but it takes about four days to set it up. The tribute to Sinatra is highly unusual from the Board of Trustees of the Colucci’s Musical Mine’s Theater along with the committee of the Westhampton Beach Project. It is highly unusual that we are doing the Sinatra tribute, but, after this last year of Covid, everybody suggested we do something a little bit lighter but with some fun and I believe Sinatra is timeless, although basically the overall show is a high profile schooled performance.”
Mr. Colucci went on explain how difficult the highly disciplined world of dance is and said everyone appearing on the stage this year are “major schooled talent.” He said this about the Sinatra tribute, “We will present great dancers, but we are deviated slightly off the last few years presenting the great Steven Maglio, but for a good reason. People are going to the sites and donating money and they are buying tickets. The show is free to the general public but if someone wants to buy a chair for $25 and have V.I.P. treatment yes, we are doing that. People are calling in for these special seats, We have over 100 booked already. I am hoping because of COVID experience of the last painful year people now feel safe enough to come out…I put more money into this show this year than practically anything I have done in my entire life, and I did this because I wanted to do very well with the attendance, I want everything to be safe with people following guidelines and I am thrilled we have a lot of support from the community like I really never had before. The most important thing is that people want to see great art, great artist and this is an opportunity for young people to see it without having to shell out around $300 like they would to see talent like this at Lincoln Center. We feel we are showing the younger crowds the arts that exists beyond contemporary music.”
