Looking for a more unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Heart of the Hamptons is hosting a Valentine’s Day celebration at The Coast Grill (1459, 1109 Noyack Rd #2, Southampton, heartofthehamptons.org) on Wednesday, February 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. The evening will feature music from local band Bingo Bango. Admission is $50 and half the proceeds will be donated to Heart of the Hamptons.
Quogue Library will host a screening of Chocolat – with complimentary popcorn and pretzels – at Quogue Fire House (117 Jessup Avenue, Quogue, www.quoguelibrary.org) on Thursday, February 13. The screening will commence at 6:30 p.m.
A weekend of love will engulf Ashawagh Hall (780 Springs Fireplace Road, East Hampton, ashawagh-hall.org) during the Love of Art exhibition. Highlighting works from a collection of young artists, the exhibition will be on display on Friday, February 14 through Monday, February 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. An opening reception will take place on Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. The affair will include music from ASTRONAUTO (8 to 9 p.m.), sound healing by Sound Dreams NYC, a DJ set by J TiL & Negk, bites, and more.
If you’ve been unlucky in love recently, Westhampton Free Library (7 Library Avenue, Westhampton Beach, westhamptonlibrary.com) will hold Lunch and Learn: Broken Heart Syndrome on Friday, February 14 at 12 p.m. John P. Reilly, MD, of Stony Brook Cardiology and Specialty Care in Southampton, will discuss how a body’s heart and mind are connected, the reasoning behind broken heart syndrome, as well as how stress hormones could impact the cardiovascular system.
The Heart of Springs will present the Springs Valentine Day Sing Along: Love Edition at Fellowship Hall (5 Old Stone Highway, East Hampton) on Friday, February 14 at 5 p.m. All are welcome to belt out tunes of the heart from greats like Stevie Wonder, Carol King, Cole Porter, Elvis, Sinatra, Beatles, Patsy Cline and more. There is no fee to attend and tickets are not required.
Quogue Wildlife Refuge (3 Old Country Road, Quogue, quoguewildliferefuge.org) will host a special Light the Night Valentine’s Day edition on Friday, February 14 at 5:30 p.m. Attendees can take a romantic stroll through the Refuge, which will be gently illuminated. When walkers get a little chilly, they can park themselves by the cozy fireplace and enjoy some hot cocoa and cookies that will be available for purchase.
Shelter Island Public Library’s (37 North Ferry Road, Shelter Island, www.shelterislandpubliclibrary.org) Friday Night Dialogues will have a Short and Sweet: Stories of Love theme. John and Katherine Moore will regale attendees with shorts revolving around love, of course. The event will take place on Friday, February 14 at 7 p.m.
Southampton Arts Center (25 Jobs Lane, Southampton, southamptonartscenter.org) will host RACONTEURS: LOVE – Valentine’s Day Evening of Storytelling on Friday, February 14 at 7 p.m. The love themed affair will encompass tales of heart from featured speakers that include Franco Cuttica, Carolann diPirro, Paton Miller, Greg Monske, Eileen Obser, Andrea Harum Schiavoni, and Annie Washburn.
Suffolk Theater (118 East Main Street, Riverhead, www.suffolktheater.com) will hold a very special, two-day Sal “The Voice” – A Sal-Entine’s Weekend extravaganza. On Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15, Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti will entertain the crowd with heartfelt hits. The talented crooner, who won over the country while competing on America’s Got Talent, draws inspiration from icons like Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. Both performances will take place at 8 p.m.
A Galentine’s Calligraphy + Candle Making Workshop will take place at Special Effects Salon & Tea (455 Main Street, Greenport, www.eventbrite.com) on Saturday, February 15 at 1 p.m. Led by Alexandra from Mettā Scent Social and Meagan from WildRose Shop, first class-goers will find their top three fragrances, which they will utilize to create a signature scent that will also boast a custom label and embellishment from some gorgeous dried flowers. As the candles set, participants will be treated to a lesson in modern calligraphy.
Local author Valerie Nifora will share a collection of poetry that delves into the light and darkness of romance at the Hampton Bays Public Library (42 Ponquogue Avenue, Hampton Bays, hamptonbayslibrary.org) on Saturday, February 15 at 1 p.m.
If you’re looking for love, don’t miss the Puppy Love & Pints Adoption Event at Long Ireland Beer Company (817 Pulaski Street, Riverhead, longirelandbeer.com) on Saturday, February 15. From 2 to 5 p.m. One Love Dog Rescue, Inc. will showcase a few pups in need of a forever home and 10 percent of all pints purchased will be donated to the Smithtown-based 100 percent volunteer based rescue group. Attendees are welcome to bring their own four-legged family member to the gathering.
