A La Mode Shoppe to Open at Former Scoop Du Jour Location

A La Mode Shoppe is expected to open in the spring of 2022

Scoop Du Jour, the famous and beloved ice cream shop of East Hampton, had to close its doors after 26 years in December of 2020. “We are just another casualty of this pandemic,” a sign at the shop read.

Many locals were disappointed by the sad news about the closure of one of East Hampton’s favorite spots. In the summer, lines were consistently out the door each day and night as Hamptons locals and visitors enjoyed their favorite flavors of scoops and cones in a one-of-a-kind experience.

Although the closure has been upsetting when so many businesses could not afford to stay open during the pandemic, the space has been bought by another popular ice cream shop from New York City! Locals can still get their fix and enjoy delicious summer treats in the same space, but a new setting and feel entirely.

A La Mode Shoppe is expected to open in the spring of 2022. This will be A La Mode’s second location as they expand from the Upper East Side out to East Hampton. They are an artisanal ice cream shop, specializing in handcrafted premium ice cream that is prepared locally and they use only the freshest ingredients.

One of the unique aspects of A La Mode Shoppe is their attention to social responsibility and their mission to leave out potentially harmful ingredients to those with food allergies. It has always been important to them not to alienate children with nut allergies, which was the foundation that A La Mode was built on. Therefore, A La Mode is a fully nut-free, sesame-free, and egg-free facility. They offer a variety of mouth-watering flavors on their menu, and they have an online store where you can order ice cream treats and shop their boutique! They even deliver!

Sandy Roth, the co-founder of A La Mode Shoppe, states on their website, “A La Mode Ice Cream is all-inclusive and mindful of the growing number of people who have allergies today. Many of our customers had never been able to try a dairy-based ice cream before they tried ours, and it has been a magical experience in their lives. Our goal is to provide children and adults alike with the delicious, joyful, and safe experience of sharing ice cream together.”

Though Scoop du Jour will be greatly missed, along with the many memories and nostalgia the ice cream shop created, East Hampton is excited to welcome A La Mode Shoppe to the community! Get ready for some tasty, handcrafted ice cream treats this summer where there is something for everyone to enjoy with A La Mode’s inclusive mission!

A La Mode will be moving into the former Scoop du Jour location at 35 Newtown Lane in East Hampton.

  • Passenger Ferry Service Between Greenport and Sag Harbor in the Works

Passenger ferry service between Sag Harbor and Greenport may just be available sometime in the near future if both the Sag Harbor Village Board and Hampton Jitney President Geoffrey Lynch can work out the details. The idea is not new. In fact, “The Peconic Jitney,” served this function ten years ago but was discontinued for economic reasons. Mr. Lynch is now seeking a 5-year contract to restart the service. He hopes to give the residents and visitors of both forks some new options to get from Greenport to Sag Harbor or vis-à-vis new quicker, carless options. • Is It Covid? IS IT COVID???
by David Lion Rattiner

I have been fortunate enough to avoid Covid-19 thus far. A few days ago however, I was sure my luck had changed. It was so sudden. I woke up and was unbearably congested, I had a deep, nasty cough and my voice sounded like there was a frog in my throat. “Honey, I’m pretty sure I got Covid!!! I’m freaking out!!!” Read the full article at Hamptons.com (Link in Bio) #hamptons #covid

  • Sixty-Something: A Tapestry of Historic Hamlets

The future is always in front and somewhat unknown. We live in the now, but the past is a collection of lessons learned and hopefully preserved to be remembered for pretext and guidance.

The east end is chock full of vibrant history and a wonderful now and, I believe, a promising future. My east end journalistic journey of the last twenty years has awarded me the opportunity to investigate, interview, and get to observe the events, the folks and the ways of life of the east end. I have been able to report from Speonk to Montauk. Read the full article at Hamptons.com (Link in Bio) #hamptons #community #local
