ABNY Gallery is pleased to announce *Eye of the Storm*, a solo exhibition of recent works on paper by the acclaimed artist Elizabeth Karsch, curated by art advisor and independent curator Casey Dalene. This highly anticipated exhibition will run from August 23 to August 31, 2024, offering the first comprehensive display of Karsch’s groundbreaking large-scale series from 2023.
The exhibition will open with a reception on Friday, August 23, from 5 to 7 PM, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artist. Additionally, an engaging Q&A session with both the artist and curator will take place on Thursday, August 29, at 6 PM.
Karsch’s new body of work represents a bold evolution in her practice. Inspired by the intense summer of 2023, she shifted towards a more physical and dynamic approach, translating the visceral energy of her environment into sweeping, tornado-like forms. These motifs, reminiscent of her earlier work but reinvigorated with deeper meaning, offer a profound exploration of Karsch’s personal journey as both a mother and creator.
Casey Dalene first encountered Karsch’s tornado series on social media, where its raw, unfiltered energy immediately captivated her. Seeing the work in person deepened her appreciation, leading to a collaboration that brings this powerful series to the public for the first time.
Karsch’s works are known for their emotive power, drawing on the traditions of abstract expressionism. In *Eye of the Storm*, she channels the spirit of artists like Cecily Brown, Lee Krasner, and Joan Mitchell, yet distinctly her own voice emerges through the dynamic interplay of color, texture, and form. The large-scale works invite viewers to immerse themselves in the complexity of the marks and gestures, discovering new layers of meaning with each encounter.
ABNY Gallery is proud to host this exceptional exhibition, marking a significant moment in both Karsch’s career and the East Hampton art scene.
