Elliot Pegg is easily recognizable, and not just because of his dashing British accent. I’ve seen him all around the Hamptons this summer at showings and open houses for properties he represents, along with the Vincent Horcasitas Team at Saunders & Associates. When I saw that he recently put 5 Tulip Ct into contract, I knew I needed to catch up with Elliot about how he maintains momentum, his family life, and of course, advice as to where to get the best fish and chips in the Hamptons.
Congrats on your recent sale! What were the keys to getting the deal done?
It’s a process, and utilizing my expertise in how to guide my buyers through the steps along with patience, good communication and a positive attitude were big factors. There are always challenges, but that’s true for most transactions in our unique market. Educating the buyers during the sale was important, especially as first-time home buyers, which I can relate to, having purchased my home in Southampton 5 years ago. It can be overwhelming, and I can definitely relate to that experience. I’m looking forward to working with first-time home buyers in the future, it’s exciting and very rewarding.
What brought you to the Hamptons?
Tennis. I was the Director of Tennis at Southampton Camp and Club, since 2015. I was lucky to meet my wife here, it was love (of the accent) at first sight and we now raise our family full time in Southampton.
I have to ask, is the seafood better in the Hamptons?
That’s a tough one! Of course, I miss a good fish and chips soaked in vinegar, but eating a lobster roll while looking out over the ocean… You can’t compete with that in the Hamptons.
So, where is the best fish and chips in the Hamptons??
I’ve just had a fantastic lunch at Out of the Blue in Hampton Bays, HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
What attracted you to a career in real estate?
It was a natural transition from my career in tennis. So many similarities in terms of creating relationships, hard work and building my clientele. Networking is a plus too and I have been lucky to build connections with a lot of people during my time here. Plus, of course, I love the opportunity to represent some of the most stunning luxury properties in the world.
What is it like to be a “Brit in the Hamptons”? (Also, love the pun)
It’s definitely a conversation starter. Americans love the accent (laughs). The Hamptons is very different to anywhere I have seen in England or globally, so it’s been a great experience. I have really enjoyed living here, raising my family and can call the Hamptons my home.
How was your first year with the Vincent Horcasitas Team?
Fantastic! I’ve gained so much knowledge from the whole team, having the opportunity be a part of a team with over 35 years of combined experience and 5 billion in sales. Vince, Alfredo and Alba are all fantastic agents, and it has been great working alongside them learning every day. The opportunity to host open houses and do showings has really helped me introduce myself to other agents, buyers, and sellers. Those relationships are so important and working with the team has helped immensely in developing my network.
Favorite beach?
Flying Point. I love to bring my wife and kids.
What are you looking forward to in the Fall?
September and October are the most beautiful months in my opinion. The weather is fantastic – but I’ll be just as busy in the fall with showings and hosting open houses. If you haven’t seen the Hamptons in the fall, come see for yourself!
What is the tennis culture like in the Hamptons?
Tennis is very popular and I still enjoy playing. There are so many clubs and tennis pros here, plus a lot of private tennis courts at people’s homes which makes the Hamptons unique. It’s great to see the sport ingrained in life in the Hamptons.
Current properties?
Two great rentals I’d love to highlight: 493 Old Canoe Place and 570 Hampton Road, Unit 28. Both beautiful year-round and seasonal rentals in Southampton.
How were rentals this summer?
Busy! But that’s a good thing. Still, I predict next summer will be even busier. Rentals are fantastic because they keep the momentum moving.
Is it too early to start looking for a rental for Summer 2025?
Never too early, and there is no time like the present! Save the stress and secure your summer rental. I saw so many renters in the lurch, searching last minute, sometimes with no success, and ultimately making sacrifices they would have avoided had they rented much earlier in the season.
And finally, what is your view on the market and where do you think it’s going?
I think we will see more inventory coming onto the market in the 4th quarter of 2024. We have seen interest rates drop, which will pent-up demand from interested buyers who have been on hold. I believe this will also bring well-priced and competitive homes to the market.
