Come with me as I take you through an overnight stay at a charming bespoke Inn on the Shinnecock Canal.
Walking into Canoe Place Inn from its front entrance shows off the grandeur and attention to detail Rechler Equity Partners ensured with its 4-year extensive renovation. The lobby has impossibly high ceilings and a decadent chandelier that ushers you right to the check-in desk. When entering from the rear, you walk through a cottage-core-styled patio and bar, which meets a brick hallway into the Inn itself. When taking this route, you get a sneak peek of the dining room and library, two of my favorite rooms. Check-in is seamless, with all the praise to be given to their attentive staff. We step inside the elevator, which gives insight into just how vast the lodging of Canoe Place Inn is. You click for the third floor, and after a few moments, the doors open to a vibrant hallway lined with bright green carpet, funky wallpaper, and eclectic art. Using the key card to enter, we open the door and are transported to what feels like a mix of a Scottish countryside cottage and a hip New York townhouse. The wallpaper from the hallway is switched up to a gorgeous floral pattern that travels from the walls onto the ceiling– a design element that makes for a cozy and intimate feel. Our room is oddly shaped, with not one but two perfect nooks for reading and lounging. On the wall to our right is a classy and romantic, old-fashioned bar adjacent to a white-washed bathroom fitted with heated floors, a beauty vanity, a walk-in shower and toilet. Slanted ceilings bring you down to the other side of the room, which opens to a bunk-bed-styled nook and a tiny dormer window overlooking the canal. Across from the nook, on the other side of the room, is a giant poster bed with ornately carved swans of wood decorating each corner of the frame– fit for royalty, no doubt. Dinner reservations are set for 7 pm. I will meet you down there.
Every time I have dined at Canoe Place Inn, I have been met by a bustling dining room and bar, laughter and clinking glasses ringing from wall to wall. While they are continually tweaking their menu and adjusting for seasonal flavors and produce, there are quite a few menu staples that I always enjoy. We ordered the whipped ricotta to start tonight, and we’re not disappointed. When the flavors of the ricotta, pomegranate, and focaccia blend, they create a savory but sweet starter. Meat lovers cannot skip the Wagyu burger, and those who prefer seafood won’t be disappointed by the bucatini ala vongole. We finish off our meal by sharing the tiramisu cake. Fluffy and rich in flavor, this dessert perfectly precedes a tranquil night’s rest back in the room.
With the ability to bring you back in time to its original 1920s Hamptons hangout for the elite, Canoe Place Inn has solidified its spot as the newest and chicest place to dine and stay in the Hamptons.
