Jamie Berger, the Director of Marketing & Communications of ARF is busy getting all things prepared for the ARF Dog Walk on October 9th. She said the two-mile walk to the ocean and back will begin and end at the historic Mulford Farm, owned by the East Hampton Historical Society in the heart of East Hampton Village and that dog walkers can register at give.arfhamptons.org/DogWalk.
This year it’s back to a “live” walk as opposed to last years virtual walk. She said, “We are very excited and so are all our walkers who are happy to hear it is back.”
In 1974, ARF was founded and now is a leading animal rescue and adoption center on Long Island. Over the years it has been helping save abandoned cats and dogs across the world. ARF also operates a pet food pantry, with free vaccine clinics, and free spay/neuter clinics for feral cats.
Ms. Berger asked that it be emphasized that the “pre-registration fee is $30 for adults ($40 day of the event) and FREE for children 10 and under with a registered adult, donations appreciated.” She added that at the time of the interview (last Thursday) saying, “So far we have over 200 people registered, normally in years past pre-covid we have gotten over 400, close to 500 people. This year we are not sure who will feel comfortable coming out.”
Ms. Berger also said, “Although it is a working event for me but it’s an annual event where we see repeat supporters and just to see them over the years come out and support the event is special. It’s seeing old friends like a family reunion. We will be asking for proof of vaccine.
She said that, “Registration brochures are also available at the ARF Thrift Shop in Sagaponack. Walkers can participate virtually as well, and walk wherever they might be located.”
Then she sent information that, “All registrants receive a free event t-shirt, tote bag and refreshments including Starbucks coffee, Dreesen’s Famous Donuts, Goldberg’s Bagels, apples and cider from The Milk Pail, dog treats, and water. This year’s t-shirt once again features original artwork by designer ISAAC MIZRAHI!”
Ms. Berger proudly said, “Isaac Mizrahi does artwork for us, so the participants free event t-shirt with the artwork from Isaac Mizrahi. It’s very special. He will be there because he has said it is his favorite day of the year.”
She mentioned the facility, the ARF Adoption Center, “Still is currently under construction … While under construction we are conducting adoptions off our mobile adoption van at the ARF Thrift Shop in Sagaponack Thursdays through Sundays from 11 AM until 4 PM. You can view our adoptable pets on our website www.arfhamptons.org
