Bideawee, one of the country’s oldest animal welfare and pet adoption organizations with locations in Manhattan and Long Island, announced the sale of 27 acres of vacant land at its Westhampton property to the Town of Southampton Community Preservation Fund. The sale, which took place on December 11, 2024, will have no effect on Bideawee’s current operations. Bideawee’s services will continue as normal at all three of its facilities: its flagship in Manhattan, its Wantagh (Long Island), and Westhampton (Long Island) sites.
The Town of Southampton Community Preservation Fund, which is meant to preserve land in its natural state in perpetuity, has — to date — preserved more than 4,000 acres of land across Southampton.
Leslie Granger, CAWA, President and CEO of Bideawee, notes, “We are pleased to announce the sale of Bideawee’s unused land to the Town of Southampton Community Preservation Fund. We want to assure the community and all animal lovers in the vicinity that it will remain business as usual at all our facilities – including our Westhampton site. The land involved in the sale was not in use, so while the Town of Southampton Community Preservation Fund gets to conserve more beautiful Eastern Long Island land, Bideawee can use the funds to serve animals in need. It’s a win for the community and a win for the homeless pets in our care.”
