If you're dreading the annual post Thanksgiving food coma, fit in a little fresh air and fitness during one of these Hamptons turkey trots and post Turkey Day walks.
Back in the day for Thanksgiving, my mom would bake pies, usually an apple pie and then my favorite, a sweet potato pie. Ah the smell of those pies cooking in the oven would permeate throughout the whole house.
"We are happy to bring back this Long Island tradition and hope everyone is excited to see our new displays," Amanda Sanderlin noted.
I really believe Thanksgiving is really special in the Hamptons because of the 470-480-year-old history of the towns and hamlets of the East End of Long Island.
Seeing live theater is something you just can't get on your computer or other devices with an app like Netflix or Amazon Prime.
"There's a perception outside the community that everyone in the Hamptons is well-off, but in our outreach efforts, we see countless families struggling to provide basic necessities," Steve Long noted.
It was that night that I first realized what tight communities the East End villages are.
"The glow of the jack-o-lantern on the porch, the wreath adorning the front door, the candles or menorah glowing in the window," Nancy Remkus of the Sag Harbor History Society noted. "It reminds us that life is to be celebrated."
"This is not a political issue, but a human rights and moral issue. It is essential to work together to help our neighbors in need," Cathy Demeroto said about food insecurity.
"In Riverhead, we work hard to offer extraordinary free community events throughout the seasons," Kristy Verity noted. "Halloween Fest is a wonderful Downtown celebration that delivers a fun, safe Halloween experience to our town and we welcome everyone to visit for an experience unlike any other on Long Island."
