The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation with the help of The New England Aquarium, set a record on Tuesday, August 6, by releasing a total of eight sea turtles on a beach in the Hamptons.
Four Kemp’s ridley sea turtles were transported from the New England Aquarium on the Cross Sound Ferry so they could be released on the shores in Hamptons Bays. The turtles were found cold stunned last year and nursed back to health. Later in the evening, the Riverhead Foundation released four more sea turtles at Ponquogue Beach in Hampton Bays.
The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation operates the New York State Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program. Their primary mission is to preserve and protect marine environment through education, rehabilitation, and research.
