In support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, The Mary Kay Foundation has awarded $3 million in grants to 150 domestic violence shelters in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Retreat, Inc. in East Hampton, has received one of the $20,000 unrestricted grants to maintain vital support, services and programs for survivors of domestic abuse.
The Hamptons domestic violence shelter assists approximately 150 women and children escaping domestic violence yearly. The Retreat provides a safe haven for families in crisis.
“We are honored that our shelter has been chosen by The Mary Kay Foundation. This grant will be used to support the critical and life-saving services that are provided to victims of domestic violence who are on the path to long-term safety, security and independence,” said Minerva Perez, The Retreat Director.
At least one domestic violence shelter from each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, are awarded a grant from The Mary Kay Foundation each year. The remaining grants are dispersed based on a state’s population, this year New York received eight grants.
“The shelter grants are a signature program for The Mary Kay Foundation and represent just one of the ways we are committed to breaking the cycle of domestic violence,” said Anne Crews, Vice President of Government Relations for Mary Kay Inc. and board member for The Mary Kay Foundation.
