The Retreat is giving Hamptons residents the chance to spread some holiday cheer. The agency’s annual Holiday Giving Programs hopes to help lift the spirits of East End families affected by domestic violence.
Especially during the holiday season, The Retreat experiences an increase in families which seek out the agency’s services. Domestic violence often increases during the holidays because of money problems, as well as higher amounts of alcohol and drug use. For some, unfortunately the time that is supposed to be filled with joy can actually be the hardest to get through.
The Retreat is looking to provide a happy holiday experience for survivor families, with a little help from generous Long Island residents. The first opportunity to spread the holiday cheer is The Retreat’s Thanksgiving Gift Card Drive. The agency is asking for gift cards to local food stores. Gift cards should be sent to The Retreat (13 Goodfriend Drive, East Hampton, New York 11937) by November 12.
Another way to support families in need is through the annual Adopt-A-Family Program, where you can donate a present or gift card to a family in need.
“To all the wonderful staff of The Retreat and its generous supporters: I can never thank-you enough for welcoming my family into your hearts during the most difficult time of our life. Without you, I would not have a life. You will forever be remembered by us,” noted an anonymous recipient of The Retreat’s services.
