Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States. To help spread knowledge about the deadly disease, Southampton Hospital organized an outreach campaign during the month of February, which is American Heart Month. The campaign was as part of a wider effort by the American Heart Association (AHA).
The movement hit its peak during an open house on Valentine’s Day. Hospital employees wearing red provided attendees with key facts about improving heart health, free heart health screenings, and nutritious food choices.
To raise funds for the organization, red dress pins and paper hearts were available for sale in the cafeteria. The efforts rose over $400, which Southampton Hospital presented to the AHA.
