Local Girl Scout Troop Supports Long Island Domestic Violence Services Agency

To support the East End’s domestic violence services and educational programs, the Springs Girl Scout Troop 1650 built, decorated, and stocked two bookshelves, which were donated to The Retreat, a leading Long Island shelter for women and children.

“We are so lucky and happy to have the support of the Girl Scouts,” Shelter Director Minerva Perez said. “The women and children who come to us for help are so grateful for these things.”

The Retreat provides safety and support to those struggling by offering counseling, advocacy, educational programs, housing assistance and more. Through these services, the shelter was able to help 58 women and 59 children on the East End in 2013.

As part of their Bronze award, the Girl Scout’s provided The Retreat with shelves that were stocked with donated children and adult books from a recent book drive the troop organized.
