All it took was one social media post to help bring Princey (aka Prince Charming), who had been missing for over a month, back to his worried family. When the beloved cat disappeared from his East Hampton home last month, his loving relatives never gave up on the animal. Princey and his family were brought back together during a tear-jerking reunion on Thursday, February 12th. The homecoming was made possible thanks to a Facebook post by Kim Cannon, a Vet Assistant at Southampton Animal Shelter (SASF), who posted a picture of the cat on Bonac Pets & Hampton Pets’ page, which led to the family recognizing their treasured pet.
The resilient cat traveled all the way to North Sea and even attempted to join a feral cat colony in an effort to survive. In the end, Prince Charming found his way to the porch of a kindhearted woman, who brought the frail cat to the Southampton Animal Shelter. Once at SASF, Cannon immediately assessed the animal, and began to nurse the emaciated and extremely dehydrated cat back to good health.
The harrowing story’s happy ending was definitely a memorable one for SASF, the family, and Princey. Once he was finally back in the arms of Jackson, his 9-year-old family member, Princey savored the moment and clung tight to his owner. Jackson and his family adopted Princey and his sister, Thumbelina, after a box of cuddly kittens were found on the William Floyd Parkway about 2 1/2 years ago.
SASF notes that indoor/outdoor cats should be kept mainly indoors during these bitter cold months, as some cats take shelter in the engine of a car to keep warm.
