Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) has been awarded yet another $250 grant from the Southampton Town Youth Service Bureau. This is the 4th grant the Shelter has received for special projects in support of the homeless pets at SASF.
The inaugural grant was awarded in 2012, for a Pet Food Pantry providing donated food to the owners of pets whose families had fallen upon hard times. A grant in 2013 followed in support of the construction of an outdoor visitation area, which has assisted in showing SASF dogs in a quiet, serene setting, and the area also allows for more visit space when potential adopters are at the Shelter. The 2014 grant helped build the Paws Walk, allowing volunteers, kennel staff, trainers and the dogs a safe area to walk during the winter months. This year’s grant will go towards a Big Dog visitation area in the front of the Shelter, to provide a place to show SASF dogs and trainers working with the dogs. The addition will allow for educational demonstrations and another visitation area for potential adopters and small groups or families to join in.
Southampton Boy Scout Troop 58 has also been invaluable assisting with SASF projects, and of course, the scout leaders and den mothers were also a vital part of the dedicated SASF volunteer team.

The Hampton Bays Library’s Teen Department has also joined the cause, holding a donation drive in support of fencing for the Big Dog area. “The teens are always excited to do projects for the animal shelter,” said Theresa Owens, Teen Services Manager at the Hampton Bays Library Teens Department. “We will be starting our fundraising drive soon for the new Big Dog area.” The Teen Department continually comes up with creative fundraising projects throughout the year and the Hampton Bays Library even has several sections dedicated to displaying the adorable animals available for adoption at SASF.
