Youth living on the East End can learn to surf through the YMCA East Hampton RECenter this summer. The organization’s newest partnership with CoreysWave Professional Surf Instruction, a company based in Montauk, that specializes in surfing and stand-up paddling, is aimed at teaching children about the water sports at little to no coast, as part of the CoreysWave’s “Wave Share” program.
“Through the Wave Share program, we will be able to help more children who may benefit from surfing,” Corey Senese, Owner and Lead Surf Instructor of CoreysWave Professional Surf Instruction, said. “Surfing with CoreysWave is a great way for children who can’t normally access the sport to find a lifetime passion. Surfing can be dangerous if you’re not introduced to the activity properly, so these lessons will feature one or two children to a professional instructor.”
CoreysWave will provide $10,000 in services to those involved in the summer sports and swim camp program and the leaders club. The Montauk-based company will also be helping to raise funds for the YMCA’s Leaders and Lemonade campaign. And, on Sunday, June 28th, they will be holding “Community Collaboration: Montauk 2015,” a showcase at The Montauk Beach House displaying the works of local artists, in which a portion of all proceeds will go to the Waves for Water charity and the YMCA East Hampton RECenter.
“CoreysWave has made a big splash at the YMCA by bringing in a new facet to our youth programs,” YMCA East Hampton RECenter Executive Director Glenn Vickers said. “We look forward to watching this amazing partnership grow as the children in the East End are exposed to the sport of surfing, allowing us to continue our commitment to water safety.”
YMCA East Hampton RECenter is located at 2 Gingerbread Lane in East Hampton. For more information, call 631-329-6884 or visit ymcali.org.
