Once again, Coopers Beach in Southampton is going retro for the 6th Annual Drive-In Movie Mondays. Pack up a car of friends and family members and get ready to watch recent cinematic hits on the big screen at Coopers.
Screenings kickoff on Monday, July 27th with “Big Hero 6.” The animated Sci-Fi/action film follows robotics prodigy Hiro (Ryan Potter), who lives in the city of San Fransokyo. Hiro’s two best friends are his older brother, Tadashi, and Baymax (Scott Adsit), a robot whose only purpose is to take care of people. When a shocking turn of events puts Hiro in the midst of a perilous plan, he transforms Baymax and his other friends, Go Go Tamago (Jamie Chung), Wasabi (Damon Wayans Jr.), Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez) and Fred (T.J. Miller), into a group of high-tech heroes.

On Monday, August 3rd the series will feature “Dolphin Tale 2.” While it’s been several years since the team at Clearwater Marine Hospital saved Winter the dolphin’s life by giving her a prosthetic tail, her life is once again in disarray in the wake of her surrogate mother’s passing. Since USDA regulations state that dolphins cannot be housed alone, the team must find her another companion, or Winter will be moved to another aquarium. Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman, Nathan Gamble, Harry Connick Jr., Kris Kristofferson, and Austin Stowell star in “Dolphin Tale 2.”

The final screening is “Insurgent” on Monday, August 10th. A sequel in the “Divergent” series, the film continues the story of Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) living in a dystopian post-apocalyptic Chicago. With her enemies, Jeanine (Kate Winslet) and the rest of the power-hungry Erudites, on the run, Tris and Four (Theo James) search for allies and answers.
An FM car radio is necessary for the “retro-in-you-car” movie viewings. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie starts at dark. Admission is $40 per car load ($10 per person). Tickets are available at the Chamber Office (76 Main Street, Southampton), online, or at the Gate, and beach passes are not needed for the screenings.
