“This Is Montauk” Hopes To Remind Viewers Of The True Montauk

Montauk has taken a bit of a hit in regards to its image this summer. From public sexcapades to parking nightmares to noise violations, some believe The End has been taken over by hipsters.

To show the Montauk that we all know and love still remains, the Montauk Chamber of Commerce has released “This is Montauk,” a video showcasing the “magic” of Montauk. “This film shows the true Montauk for visitors,” said Laraine Creegan, Executive Director of the Chamber. “We want people to see and experience Montauk the way we do.”

Recent antics in the tiny fishing village have angered many. Nearly 300 residents attended a July 14th East Hampton Town Board meeting at Montauk Fire Department, to express their outrage about the growing out of control party scene in Montauk. “The Chamber is addressing the comfort and safety concerns of its residents and visitors by continuing to update its hospitality business members about town codes and by facilitating ongoing communication between business owners, visitors, residents and local government,” said Paul Monte, President of the Chamber. “Additionally, the Chamber supports East Hampton Town Supervisor Cantwell as well as the members of the Town Board and the East Hampton Town Police in ensuring adequate police presence and enforcement efforts for town code violations as is necessary.”

The Chamber wants to remind the East End community and visitors of the real Montauk. “It is a beautiful community with a unique character and a very special quality of life,” said Creegan. “We are happy to share this magical place with our visitors and guests and encourage everyone when they visit to please respect the beauty and character of Montauk, a place we call home.”

“This is Montauk” follows a local family, Charles, a commercial fishing boat captain, Abby, a yoga instructor and their three little ones. The family takes viewers on a journey that showcases some of their favorite Montauk activities like surfing, yoga on the beach, fishing off the dock, a ride on Charles’ fishing boat, a trip to Deep Hollow Ranch, mini-golf at Puff ‘n’ Putt Family Fun Center, and a sailboat ride around Fort Pond. The film features stunning aerial views of Montauk’s landscapes, seascapes and lighthouse.

Montauk native James Katsipis directed “This is Montauk,” which includes cinematography by Nate Best and was produced by Tauk Is Cheap Productions.
