East End Museum To Address Climate Change During Annual Symposium

The 2nd Annual SoFo Climate Change Symposium & Benefit Moving Toward Sustainability, hosted by the South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo), will take place at the Museum on Saturday, June 18th from 5 to 7 p.m.

“SoFo is very happy to be a resource center and present a platform for discussion and action with our environmental experts to learn how climate change is impacting our oceans and bays, coastal habitat, property and infrastructure, and ways we can help to correct the changes,” explained Frank Quevedo, Executive Director of SoFo.

This year’s panelists include Peter Boyd, Founder of The Time4Good Group, Senior Advisor and Climate Lead for the B Team; Steven Englebright, New York State Assembly member for the 4th District and SoFo Board Trustee; Bridget M. Fleming, Suffolk County Legislator representing Suffolk’s 2nd District; Michael Gerrard, Andrew Sabin Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia Law School and Director of the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law; Nick Martin, AIA, Principal of the award-winning Martin Architects PC of Sagaponack, NY, an advocate for the environment and the arts through green practices, pro bono projects, and involvement in environmental and cultural committees; Fred W. Thiele, Jr, New York State Assemblyman representing New York State’s 1st District; and Edwina von Gal, Founder – President of Perfect Earth Project and noted Hamptons Landscape Designer.

During the event, guest speakers will discuss the challenges and recommendations for moving towards sustainability on the East End, with regards to architecture, green building, solar energy, agriculture, non-toxic remedies for green lawns and to repel ticks and mosquitoes, net zero carbon energy, and other like-minded topics.

The evening will begin with a Cocktail Reception from 5 to 6 p.m. featuring wine from Channing Daughter’s Winery, Montauk Brewing Company beer, and live entertainment by Alfredo Merat, followed by the Panel Discussion from 6 to 7 p.m.

Admission to the event is a suggested donation of $150, $75 for students, and free for those under 15-years-old. All proceeds from the evening will benefit SoFo’s Climate Change Programming.
