Every year, more than 9,000 dogs and cats are killed merely because they don’t have a permanent home. Earlier in October, the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) participated in Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt walk in New York City to raise money to support the thousands of homeless dogs and cats that reside in animal shelters around the country. The goal of the fundraiser was to raise as much money as possible for the shelters that provide a temporary home for animals in need of a forever home and to save more lives.
“Thank you to our team members, volunteers and sponsors! Thank you to Best Friends for this inspiring event,” expressed Kate McEntee, Public Relations and Marketing Director Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation. “Together we CAN save them all!”
But, the fundraising campaign didn’t end there. The team who raises the most by Monday, October 31st will receive an award of $10,000. The Shelter’s fundraising goal is $25,000, and they are nearly there. Each donation is tax deductible and each participating animal welfare organization keeps 100 percent of the money that is raised after transaction fees.
“So many good dogs and cats arrive at Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation each year,” said Joe Gettler, who has volunteered at SASF since 2014. “I’m proud to ‘strut my mutt’ for these animals and the shelter that works every day to find new families for them all.”
So, if you weren’t able to “Strut Your Mutt” with SASF in New York City, help them capture the top fundraising spot by donating to the cause.
You can also join Strut Your Mutt spokesperson Amanda Seyfried and her dog Finn and take the 9,000 Steps challenge. Once you register, on the ninth day of each month, make sure to reach at least 9,000 steps – to raise awareness for shelter animals – report your progress and you’ll be entered to win prizes, and you’ll also earn a badge for your fundraising page. The 9,000 Steps grand prize winner will receive a BOBS from Skechers shopping spree, a photoshoot with your own pet for an ad in Best Friends Magazine, and a trip to Best Friends Sanctuary.
