The East Hampton Library will celebrate the opening of its new Young Adult Room on Saturday, November 19th, from 12 to 2 p.m. The community is invited to attend this opening celebration and ribbon cutting. The space has been designed by Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership (LHSA+DP) in collaboration with the Library’s Teen Advisory Board.
“We’re so thrilled that the young students reached out to us to let us know their needs, and that we were able to fulfill them,” remarked Sheila Rogers, President of the East Hampton Library’s Board of Managers. “With the new Young Adult Room, they will now have their own special space in the Library, and a dedicated librarian to serve their unique needs.”
The Teen Advisory Board has provided hands-on input and direction in regards to the room’s new layout, design elements, materials, technology components, and so much more. The room has been described as “vibrant, inviting, and environmentally sensitive.”
In addition to housing the Library’s collection of Young Adult books, the new Young Adult room will feature a group conference space with LCD screen, study and technology stations with computers and laptops, a student-created mural wall, and display space for changing photography and art exhibits.
The Opening Celebration will also feature the unveiling of the wall mural and announcement of the winner of the local teen photo contest, live music, and a local pizza tasting contest.
The East Hampton Library is located at 159 Main Street in East Hampton. For more information, call 631-324-0222 or visit easthamptonlibrary.org.
