OLA of Eastern Long Island, a Sagaponack-based nonprofit advocacy agency dedicated to “promoting social, economic, cultural, and educational development within Long Island’s East End Latino and Hispanic communities”, recently announced that Itzel Nava has joined the OLA team. The recent college-grad will serve as OLA’s first ever Development and Outreach Associate.
“Itzel has enthusiasm for this work that is centered on a community she cares for deeply,” explained Minerva Perez, Executive Director. “She is the perfect example of reverse brain drain!”
In 1998, Nava and her family moved to Southampton in search of a better life. She began working for nonprofits at a young age, volunteering for Kid-too-Kid Foundation – who provides underprivileged students with school supplies and tutoring support. After graduating high school, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology.
In her new position, Nava will be responsible for a number of tasks including volunteer coordination, social media and marketing, community outreach, and event coordination.
“Seeing our college grads returning to our towns to bring their newfound skills and passions is a trend we want to encourage,” added Perez.
OLA of Eastern Long Island looks forward to seeing how Nava can augment the organization with her hard work and compassion for the business.
