On Saturday, November 4, Southampton Youth Services (SYS) will be presenting its 11th Annual Family Fun Day to benefit the George and Annette Benedict Scholarship Fund. The event, held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will include plenty of fun activities for the whole family. Be sure to get there early, as the first 100 kids to arrive will receive a free Family Fun Day t-shirt. Other door prizes include a week of Future Stars Multi-Sport Camp.
The autumn happening will feature a performance from Joy Dance Academy at 11:30 a.m., a fencing and archery demonstration by East End Fencing at 12:15 p.m., a karate demonstration from JKA Hamptons Karate at 1 p.m., performances from Hamptons Gymnastics East at 1:45 p.m., and baton twirling at 2:15 p.m. There will also be face painting, glitter tattoos, arts and crafts, a photo booth, carnival games and prizes, and balloon making by Tricky Business of East Meadow.

A Chinese auction will also be held that includes shoes signed by Rondae Hollis-Jefferson of the Brooklyn Nets, restaurant gift certificates, and children’s toys and games. The event is free for all children aged 12 and under, $5 for teens, and $10 for adults. Proceeds will go towards the SYS scholarship fund. Hot dogs, pizza, and food from Sabrosa Mexican Grill will be available to purchase.
As SYS is a facility for recreation and athletics, there will also be activities that allow the children to burn off some of their seemingly endless amounts of energy. They can climb an inflatable volcano, jump, slide, and crawl around an inflatable obstacle course, and enjoy an inflatable ferris wheel.
The scholarship fund at SYS were established to help those in need access its programs and services. In 2017, over $35,000 in scholarships were provided. Annette Benedict was an active member of the Southampton community. She and husband George Benedict founded the Seafield Center in Westhampton Beach, and opened up clothing stores, Wild Wild East and Stanley Blacker Clothing Store, in Southampton. Mrs. Benedict also volunteered at the Southampton Hospital and served on the board of the Southampton Rose Society. She is survived by her husband, George. The Benedicts funded the youth bureau at SYS, also known as “The Path,” a space that provides middle school and high school students with ping pong, a pool table, foosball, computers, games, and more.
Events like Family Fun Day help SYS continue to provide scholarships to children in need. With your contribution, many children have the opportunity to attend the Kidz Club After School program, camp, dance classes, and the Future Stars Sports Camp. “This is SYS’s opportunity to thank the community that supports us all year long,” explained SYS Executive Director, Scott Johnson.

Southampton Youth Services, Inc. is a not-for-profit that was founded in 2000. Its mission is simple: to provide a “safe place to play, dream, grow and learn.” SYS provides 55,000 square feet of recreation space with its various facilities for members. The center is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week and year-round.
