Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce will hold its first annual Sand Castle Building Contest on Sunday, July 8 at 1 p.m. at Crescent Beach.
“We are so excited to offer families such a fun event on such a special weekend on the island,” shared Brett Surerus, Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce.
The Independence Day weekend event will start with a free family concert at the Perlman Music Program (73 Shore Road, Shelter Island) from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The performance will feature Merry Peckham, along with students, fellows, and faculty, who will highlight classical music through notable songs, amusing skits, and vibrant costumes.
Registration for the contest will follow from 1 to 1:15 p.m. Finally, judging and top honors will take place at 3:30 p.m.
“Some fun in the sun, plus the Perlman Music Program’s family concert prior to the event, really makes for a perfect Shelter Island day!” added Surerus.
Refreshments will be available as will family friendly raffle prizes.
The $20 family entry fee includes a free sand pail and shovel for each child. All ages are welcomed.
All profits benefit the Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce.
