On Saturday, October 6, leash up your beloved four legged family members and join Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Inc. (ARF) for the 25th annual “Stroll to the Sea” Dog Walk.

Presented by The Corcoran Group, the two-mile walk to the ocean and back – complete with plenty of spectacular Hamptons fall foliage – will begin and end at the East Hampton Historical Society’s Mulford Farm – located in the heart of the Village. The ARF Mobile Adoption Van, who is transporting a special group of ARFans to Mulford Farm, will lead Stroll to the Seaers.

“It’s one of our favorites days of the year!” shared Jamie Berger, ARF Director of Marketing & Communications.

“Corcoran has been a longtime supporter of Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons through various events and partnerships, including ‘Stroll to the Sea’ for the past seven years,” added Gordon Hoppe, EVP of Corcoran Sunshine and member of the board executive committee of ARF. “We are happy to support an organization that does so much good for the community and for the pets that many of our agents in the Hamptons consider part of their families.”

In addition to the scenic stroll, participants can enter a variety of entertaining contests – like Dog/Companion Look Alike, the Pooch Who Can Smooch and Stupid Pet Tricks. For pups with endless energy, there will also be a dog agility course. “Stroll to the Sea” favorite, singer/songwriter Sandy Rapp, is back and there will also be a silent and Lucky #’s auction with several covet worthy items, services and experiences for both owners and pets.

“To see all the former ARFans with their forever families and all the dogs in the community who come out in support of our cause, is truly heartwarming,” Berger reflected.

The “Stroll to the Sea” entry fee is $30 for adults in advance and $40 on the day of the event. There is no fee for children 13 and under who attend with a registered adult. Participants may also set up a fundraising page on ARF’s website or create their own fundraising team. Those that garner the most support will have the chance to win a two-night stay with breakfast at The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee, Georgia, seven nights of premium accommodations at the St. James’s Club Antigua, a four-and-a-half-star Elite Island Resort and a summer share for the 2019 season at Amber Waves Farm in Amagansett. The top youth (13 or under) fundraiser will be awarded a bicycle from the Sag Harbor Cycle Company.

All strollers who register will be offered complimentary nail clippings for their dogs, a free event tee shirt with artwork by designer Isaac Mizrahi and tote bag and refreshments – including Starbucks coffee, Dreesen’s Famous Donuts, dog treats and Boxed Water.

Those that raise $250 or more for the dog walk will receives a special gift, courtesy of Isaac Mizrahi. Those that collect $150 or more may attend the exclusive Kick-Off Cocktail Party on Friday, Friday, October 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Gordon H. Hoppe and Michael Dehn Breault are hosting the soiree at their East Hampton home.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. on Saturday and the walk will begin at 9 a.m. The dog contests and awards ceremony begin at 11 a.m.

Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, which was founded in 1974, is one of the leading Long Island-based animal welfare organizations. The state-of-the-art ARF Adoption Center takes in over 1,700 cats and dogs each year, offering not only a refuge to await their forever homes, but ARF also provides meals, exercise and top-notch veterinary care.

  • Traffic in the Hamptons is Time Sensitive

Traffic in the Hamptons is time sensitive. Going east from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and west from 4 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. has become quite an ordeal. The initial expansion of “Highway 39” back around 2006-2007, in which the two-lane road was expanded to four and in some places six lanes, no longer is alleviating the traffic flow.

  • Sixty/Something: Solid Gold Rent

My first full-time year in the Hamptons started as a weekend and lasted a decade. I paid rent to a host of folks thinking I’d be moving back to NYC. Somehow the east end helped me transition to a very happily remarried east end guy.

This tale all started with me, a divorced dad having a fateful ride to Joe Shaw’s home as a favor to pick up a deposit on his sailboat. That day ended with me buying his sailboat. It was an on the spot spur of the moment epiphany moment. I knew nothing about sailboats or east end bays.

  • Bideawee Animal Rescue: “Stay Awhile”

It’s been more than two years since the start of the pandemic where there was a significant increase in animal adoptions, known as the “pandemic puppy craze.” Now, animal shelters across the country have been experiencing a lull in adoptions.

Bideawee is one of the country’s oldest and most respected animal welfare and pet adoption organizations. They have locations in New York City, Wantagh, and Westhampton, and they are encouraging the community to consider bringing a deserving and lovable pet into their home. @bideawee
