American Association Of Cardiovascular And Pulmonary Rehabilitation Lauds Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s cardiovascular rehabilitation program has earned certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), making Stony Brook Southampton the sole East End hospital commended by the AACVPR for its dedication to bettering quality of life by improving the standards of care.

“Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular problems, such as heart attacks and coronary artery bypass graft surgery, as well as pulmonary problems like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD] and respiratory symptoms, to recover faster and improve their quality of life,” said Craig Homis, Director, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. “Our programs include exercise, education, counseling, and support for patients and their families.”

To earn this accolade, the Hospital’s cardiovascular rehabilitation program was extensively evaluated. The AACVPR Program Certification, a peer-review accreditation process, is designed to assess individual programs for compliance to standards and guidelines created and published by AACVPR and other professional societies. The AACVPR Program Certification Committee is responsible for reviewing each program, while the AACVPR Board of Directors awards certification. AACVPR-certified programs utilize the most advanced practices offered and AACVPR Program Certification is valid for three years.

The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation was founded in 1985. The multidisciplinary organization’s mission is to “reduce morbidity, mortality and disability from cardiovascular and pulmonary disease through education, prevention, rehabilitation, research and disease management.”
