Once again, hundreds will lace up their sneakers and run, walk or even sprint in support of In Jordan’s Honor, Ltd., a 501 (c) (3) not for profit charitable memorial fund that honors the memory of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Jordan Christian Haerter of Sag Harbor, who was killed in action in Ramadi, Iraq, during the 3rd annual Jordan’s Run on Sunday, July 28.
“We are changing the route up slightly this year. The start and finish is on Division Street, near the lower parking lot of the School,” JoAnn Lyles, Jordan Haerter’s mother, who founded In Jordan’s Honor, Ltd., shared. “The highlight of this run is crossing the Lance Cpl Jordan Haerter Veterans’ Memorial Bridge.”
Part of the Suffolk County Veterans Run Series, In Jordan’s Honor, Ltd. created the Jordan’s Run’s course with places that had great significance in Lance Corporal Haerter’s life in mind. The 5K will start at Pierson High School, where Jordan graduated, and travel through historic Sag Harbor Village. It will travel past the marina, where Jordan worked for a summer job, and as participants approach the finish line, they’ll journey past the cemetery where this hero rests.
“After the run and awards are given out, a Marine will read General John Kelly’s speech, The last six seconds, recounting the day of 22 April 2008 when LCpl Jordan Haerter and Cpl Jonathan T. Yale gave their lives to save their brothers,” Lyles noted. “We will also have a ceremonial Rifle volley from the Suffolk County Detachment Marine Corps League of Bay Shore and final roll call for the fallen with Gold Star families in attendance.”
