Montauk Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 43rd Annual “Run for Fun” Turkey Trot around Fort Pond on Thursday, November 28. The race will step off from the Montauk Green with the race check-in at Montauk Chamber (742 Montauk Highway, Montauk) taking place between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Participants can select a 3 or 6-mile route. The Mattituck-Cutchogue Teachers’ Association 14th annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot will begin at 9 a.m. The 5K will start at the Mattituck High School (15125 Main Road, Mattituck) and benefit CAST, Alzheimer’s Research In Memory of Lois Dunne, and the MCTA Senior Scholarship Fund. The Southampton Trails Preservation Society’s Annual Walk-It-Off Hike will be held on Friday, November 29. The fast-paced hike will offer incredible views of Round Pond, Long Pond, and Little Long Pond. East Hampton Trails Preservation Society will present a post Thanksgiving walk on Friday, November 29 at 10 a.m. The three-mile Jacob’s Farm/Green River Cemetery route will loop through an oak, hickory and beech tree forest. There will be an excursion to Green River Cemetery, where some of East Hampton’s earliest European settlers, as well as prominent artists and writers, were buried. In addition to the turkey day trots, the Shelter Island Library will host The Friends of the Library 10th Annual Turkey Plunge on Saturday, November 30 at 11 a.m. The Plunge will take place at Crescent Beach (35 Shore Road, Shelter Island Heights) and registration begins at 10 a.m. Attendees will enjoy complimentary hot cider and donuts, and there will be tasty chili for sale in support of the Library. Plungers are encouraged to come donning a fun costume. There will be prizes awarded to the best costumes, as well as plungers that raise the most money.
