For the first time in the Hampton Classic Horse Show’s history, the Bridgehampton summer staple has been canceled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It is difficult to express how disappointing this is for everyone,” said Shanette Cohen, Executive Director of the Hampton Classic. “However, given the current situation and the uncertainty that lies ahead, our Board reached the conclusion that there really is no other option.”
The Hampton Classic, which is one of the world’s most prestigious equestrian events, was set to take place in late August. 2020 would have marked the Classic’s 45th anniversary.
“Naturally, the safety and well-being of our exhibitors, and everyone involved with the Classic, takes first priority and the Board is unanimous in its belief that the wisest course of action is to put all our efforts and resources into ensuring that the Classic is able to return next year at the same high standard that everyone expects,” Cohen said.
The world-class show grounds in Bridgehampton serves as one of the largest outdoor horse shows in the U.S. The 60-acre show grounds boasts six show rings, a high-end Boutique Garden that features over 70 vendors, and a wide variety of dining selections.
“I want to thank Longines, NetJets, Land Rover, Mane ‘n Tail, and Hermès and all our sponsors for their continued support,” Cohen added. “Without the ongoing support of our sponsors, patrons and exhibitors, we would not be able to maintain the Classic as the world-class event that has come to mean so much to so many. On behalf of the Board, I offer all our supporters our deepest thanks and appreciation.”
The Hampton Classic is expected to return in 2021 from August 29 through September 5.
