The Friends of The Big Duck’s Annual Rubber Duckie Race

Reeves Bay in Flanders will welcome a flock of special visitors on Saturday, August 22 – when the Friends of The Big Duck holds their Annual Rubber Duckie Race.

“The Friends of The Big Duck’s Annual Rubber Duckie Race is a great outdoor family event,” Neil Young, President – Friends of The Big Duck, noted.

Competitors and fans can watch the action go down from the lawn of the Flanders Men’s Club, socially distanced, of course. “The view of Reeves and Peconic Bay are spectacular from The Flanders Men’s Club,” Young shared.

The race will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m. and prizes will be awarded to the top three duckies. As masks are mandatory, there will even be a prize awarded to the top children’s mask – duck themes are encouraged. “There will be prizes and a ‘Best Duckie Mask’ contest for kids, too,” Young noted. “But, don’t be late! If you’re not ‘in’ in time, once the duckies are launched at noon sharp, sad to say, you’ve truly missed the boat!”

Admission to watch the Rubber Duckie Race is complimentary. The entry fee is a $5 donation (or 5 for $20). Competitors will be assigned a number that is on one of the rubber duckies and they do not need to be present to win. Attendance is limited to 100 people. The rain date is Sunday, August 23 at 11:00 a.m.

Friends of The Big Duck, a not-for-profit organization, is committed to preserving the history of the iconic East End site, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
