Local Elementary School Student Launches Fundraising Campaign In Support Of J.J. Watt’s Houston Flood Relief Fund

After witnessing the catastrophic devastation Hurricane Harvey caused in Texas, a local elementary school student started brainstorming ideas on how he could help those impacted by the natural disaster.

Max Atkinson, a Westhampton Beach Elementary School student, decided to launch a lemonade stand that would support hurricane victims. He also established a fundraising campaign within his school. So far, he’s raised $200 and although that’s already an impressive feat for someone so young, Atkinson has no plans on stopping there.

The fourth-grader took notice of the incredible reaction to NFL star J.J. Watt’s call to action and Atkinson ambitiously hopes to garner an even bigger response than the Houston Texans defensive end. Watt’s Houston Flood Relief Campaign on Youcaring.com has raised millions, yet the kindhearted, philanthropic elementary schooler doesn’t find that astounding goal daunting.

“The fund has raised over $30 million,” Atkinson noted. “Let’s see if Westhampton Beach can do better than that.”

Atkinson has hit the ground running, handing out flyers to his peers and even addressing fellow students over his school’s public address system.
