On Saturday, May 24th, Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center will host a special annual fundraising event: Kites for Kids. The event will be held at Main Beach in East Hampton from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Parking is free for fundraiser participants.
This is the third year that EWECC will host Kites for Kids, each year bringing new success and growth to benefit their mission. Since they first opened, their aim has always been to keep childcare affordable for working families and place an emphasis on the first five years of childhood development.
Tess Wachs is an avid supporter and volunteer of the Center. She founded the event Kites for Kids three years ago, after running a similar event in Southampton for eleven years. She spoke about what a great fundraising event this is and is looking forward to everyone coming out for their mission. She says, “Kites for Kids is a fabulous event. It’s open to everyone and fun for all ages. I love seeing the community come together, watching kids being active and creative, and it’s all for a great cause.”

Participants who come out to the fundraiser are invited to buy a kite and decorate it with stickers, ribbons, glitter, and other fun art of their choosing at the kite decorating station. Once the kite is bedazzled, it will be time to let it fly right there at Main Beach! Kids will have the chance to see their creation in action right away and come together for family and community fun.
The Kites for Kids event is sponsored by The Agency, a boutique luxury real estate firm in the Hamptons. The Agency managing partners say, “Supporting the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center is deeply meaningful to us because it reflects what we value most—community, education, and investing in future generations. We’re honored to help uplift the incredible work the Center does for East End families and thrilled to be part of such a joyful, heart-filled event that brings everyone together.”
The EWECC is an integral part of the East End community. They support the children of families who live out East year-round, the families who keep our villages alive and thriving in every season. The Center does this by providing year-round, daylong care for more than 100 children and the highest quality education for those who are age eighteen months to five years old. This is at the forefront of their mission because studies have shown that more than 85% of a child’s brain is formed by age five. Early education specialists have designed the program at EWECC with this in mind.
The Center was founded in 1969, and it is the only licensed, non-profit childcare center on Eastern Long Island. The Center directly addresses the critical need for affordable childcare and high-quality early education in a region where this is not always prioritized.

EWECC provides affordable early learning programs to working families with the knowledge that childcare costs have risen significantly in recent years. One of the reasons they can continue to keep childcare and education affordable is through fundraising efforts and community support. This is why they host events like Kites for Kids. It’s not only a fun way for children, family, and the community to come together, but these fundraisers are essential for the Center to be able to operate to their full potential.
Tim Frazier, Executive Director at Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center, also spoke about the importance of the event and how it’s a great way for the community to get involved in their mission. He says, “This is Kites for Kids’ third year, and each year we’ve seen more people come out to participate in what’s fast becoming a ‘kick-off to the season’ tradition. It is a fantastic event for both the young and the young at heart, and a great way to show support for early education and affordable childcare in our community.”
If you want to support an important cause for children and families in the community all while embracing your creative side and feeling the buzz of the start to the summer season, Kites for Kids is the event to do just that!
