Built in 1872 as a meeting hall, it morphed into what members of the Methodist Church who went on retreat in the nearby cottages called, “The Restaurant.” By 1909 The Chequit was transformed into an inn. Known for its live music and late-night cocktail parties, The Chequit drew a celebrity following, hosting stars like Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller and rumored Frank Sinatra. Even the Kennedys sailed down from Massachusetts to stay at The Chequit.The Chequit officially reopened Memorial Day Weekend 2022, following extensive renovations. Now celebrating its 151st anniversary, The Chequit’s main building features 19 renovated guest rooms while two additional buildings include 16 guest rooms. The Chequit’s F&B program offers two distinct dining rooms, multiple outdoor dining spaces, and a cafe - Weakfish, The Tavern and Heights Cafe & Wine Bar. Weakfish & The Tavern share one menu that is inspired by New Asian and American cuisine.
