Join us for a short hike through Montauk Mountain Preserve, one of the few remaining maritime grasslands in New York and a site of significance for the East End during the American Revolutionary War. During the American Revolutionary War, British ships moored off Fort Pond Bay threatened raids on colonists’ cattle grazing Montauk’s grasslands. Hear the story of how Captain John Dayton prevented the raid, take in the first signs of spring, listen to bird song, and learn about the rare plants in this unique maritime grassland. This will be a slow-paced .5-mile loop hike with the option to turn
