“For the summer beer program we decided to do a ‘When the Taps Align at Townline’ theme (#whenthetapsalign),” shared Julia Morris, Manager Townline BBQ. “When we get really great/special kegs in we tap them on the day that there is some type of celestial event going on.”
On Tuesday, July 28th from 9 to 11 p.m., join Townline BBQ for a Meteor Shower Party with the Montauk Observatory Astronomers. Taking place at Townline BBQ in Sagaponack, attendees will be treated to a guided tour of the night sky from Professors Mike Inglis and Sean Tvelia and the Delta Aquarids meteor shower using Montauk Observatory telescopes.
“We have tapped kegs for the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter, new moons, Venus’ greatest eastern elongation, full moons and Saturn reaching its opposition,” noted Morris. “For the Meteor Shower Party I followed the Montauk Observatory for quite sometime and noticed that they did a lot of “Star Parties” where they would host an event for star viewing and guide guests through the night sky.”
To accompany complimentary popcorn and peanuts, paryygoers can take advantage of beer specials and the ‘Night Under the Stars’ Tap Cocktail, made with Dutch’s Spirits Sugar Wash Moonshine and Colonial Bitters, housemade blueberry shrub, fresh lemon juice, organic agave nectar and housemade boozy blueberries.
“I thought it would be fun to do at Townline as well as tie in with the beer program,” said Morris. “Our spot is great for viewing because there is not a lot of light pollution and the field offers an unobstructed view of the sky!”
The Delta Aquarid meteor shower will take place from Sunday, July 12th through Sunday, August 23rd. The maximum hourly rate can reach 15 to 20 meteors in a dark sky.
