Amagansett Food Institute (AFI) is celebrating the autumn season by hosting a Fall Festival at the Amagansett Farmers Market on Saturday, October 24th from 12 to 4 p.m.

“AFI is looking forward to a great community event with fun fall activities and local food and music,” shared Jessica Engle, Program Coordinator of the Amagansett Food Institute.

The family friendly festival will feature a variety of fall favorites, like pumpkin carving, caramel apple making, and much more. “In addition to fun fall contests such as a pumpkin toss and apple bobbing, we will have a hands-on preserving workshop with canning expert Laura O’Brien, who will be showing participants how to make Heirloom apple pickles that they can take home to enjoy at Thanksgiving,” noted Engle.

With the event taking place at the Farmers Market, the afternoon will also showcase eats from several local vendors including The Sea Bean, Madeline Picnic Co., Gula Gula Empanadas, Sweet ‘tauk Lemonade, and Joe & Liza’s Ice Cream.

Since Halloween is right around the corner, AFI’s seasonal spectacular will include a little bit of spooky fun. “We also have a costume contest for teens and under and prizes throughout the day,” said Engle. “Stop by to eat some local food and hear music from Job Potter and The Friends Band.”

Anyone interested in the preserving workshop with canning expert Laura O’Brien should pre-register by emailing [email protected]. The workshop is $5.

The Amagansett Farmers Market is located at 367 Main Street in Amagansett. For more information, visit www.amagansettfoodinstitute.org.

  • East Hampton Town Airport Drama Continues

East Hampton Town Airport never had the opportunity to enact its plan to close and reopen the airport under new usage rules last May 17th. At the last minute an injunction paused that plan from going into effect. As of now it is business as usual. New reports have the EH Town officials exploring ways to legally shut down the airport. One has to wonder is this what they really want or is this a ploy that has originated because of the frustration of not being in actual control of the outcome of their own town asset?

  • Sixty-Something: Every Day on the Water is an Endless Dream

I was just sailing in Gardiner’s Bay this last week. The sun was setting in the west over Shelter Island with its always pleasing brilliant colors. The breeze was refreshingly pleasant and just strong enough to propel the sailboat gently through the bay. If this almost sounds like a dream, it is. A dream that comes true for all sailors whenever they can get out on their rigs.
