For Hampton Coffee Company, which has locations in Water Mill, Southampton, Westhampton Beach, and Aquebogue, supporting local businesses has always been a top priority. At the family-owned espresso bars and cafés, you can discover items made by local small businesses like Simply Made mugs and Copia Bars, and, now, you can also find Zuzi’z Zookiez Linzer Tartz at all four locations.
“Deciding to add Zuzi’z Zookiez Linzer Tartz to our bakery menu at all four Hampton Coffee espresso bars and cafés was an easy decision once we were able to taste just how delicious they are,” noted Edythe Collins, Marketing & Public Relations, Hampton Coffee Company.
So what sets these sweet treats apart – besides being absolutely irresistible? Zuzi’z Zookiez was founded by Suzanna of Westhampton Beach. When naming the company, Suzanna, who’s always been drawn to sweets and adores baking, went for a fun play on her name and the treasured dessert.
Suzanna originally ran the business out of her home, but the tasty treats have become so popular that she had to move her business to the Stony Brook University Business Incubator in Calverton. When making each batch at the Incubator, Suzanna starts off by zesting lemons by hand, and then patiently cracking eggs one-by-one and separating the yolks from the whites. Next, she mixes the rest of the linzer tart ingredients to form a bright batter that she’s dubbed “Yellow Heaven”. Then it’s time to roll out the dough and carefully cut each linzer tart cookie by hand. After they’re perfectly baked, Suzanna evenly spreads on the raspberry filling and places the two cookies together. The final step is delicately dusting the beautiful cookies with confectioners’ sugar.
“Even better, this delicious treat is made with love by a local mom from Westhampton Beach, where we’ve been fortunate enough to have a thriving café for the past 11 years,” added Collins.
