The Chequit in Shelter Island is expanding its dining offerings this fall with the addition of Mr. Crook’s Pub. The pop-up launched on Friday, November 3 and will remain open on weekends throughout the winter and into the spring.

David Bowd and Kevin O’Shea, owners of Salt Hotels who manage The Chequit, relayed, “We wanted to create a cozy and relaxed gathering spot for guests and locals during the quieter months and were inspired by the classic British pub, similar to the one David grew up working in the village of Salt in England.”
The casual eatery will feature a cozy new lounge area featuring board games and a wide screen TV. The menu will boast popular bar snacks like chicken wings with a choice of three sauces, homemade potato chips, loaded French fries, a cheeseburger, fish & chips, classic mac + cheese, house-made chili, as well as soups and salads. Additionally, a Mr. Crook’s Savory Pie, which the chef will alter daily based on the market, will be available.
As for drinks, cocktails will include the Manhattan Transfer with Johnny Drum Private Stock Bourbon, Noilly Prat Sweet Vermouth, St-Germaine, and Angostura bitters and Hot Maple Buttered Rum with dark rum, brown sugar, maple cutter, and cinnamon – for those frigid winter evenings where all you want to do is sit by the fire. For the first time ever, the bar will offer draft beer, with Stella Artois and Greenport Brewing Co. Harbor Ale on tap. For those looking for something tropical inspired, try the Chequit Painkiller, which originated at the Soggy Dollar Bar in the British Virgin Islands. $3 from each Painkiller will be donated to hurricane relief efforts in the Virgin Islands.
“Pubs have always been a focal point for the community and we wanted to create a similar space at The Chequit,” the duo added. “We are keeping things fun with hearty classic food and weekly programming to give a reason to come back week after week, especially in the colder months when socializing with friends and neighbors can really boost spirits.”

Themed happenings will be presented each weekend. On Friday, you can join Shelter Island local Cat Brigham for a Trivia Night, and yes there will be prizes at stake. Saturday will feature a Singer/Songwriter night. Sunday will kick off with brunch and board games, followed by Sunday afternoon football.
