Why not celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a bit early with some traditional Irish fare? At Independent Group Home Living Program, Inc. (IGHL) in Manorville, you can do just that at IGHL’s 28th annual corned beef and cabbage dinner (and Chinese auction) event on Friday, March 16. The dinner begins at 4 p.m. and features guest “Chef” Walter O’Stockton, the CEO of IGHL.
“Enjoy traditional Irish eats with great friends, and top it off with yummy desserts from our bake sale. Buy tickets for our raffle or enter to win one of many awesome prizes in our Chinese auction!” said the folks at IGHL.
Tickets are $15 per adult, $10 per child, and include access to a buffet dinner and music. Additionally, Irish coffee, other refreshments, and desserts will be available a la carte.
Proceeds from the 28th annual corned beef and cabbage dinner will support the work of IGHL – the local, non-profit organization that provides a home and many other educational and enrichment services to individuals with intellectual disabilities – as well as New Interdisciplinary School (NIS) Day Care, “an innovative early childhood learning center that respects the unique needs of all children and their families.”
IGHL was founded in 1977. What started as a single private home for eight developmentally disabled adults has grown into over 50 group homes, an opportunity center, and an organization that provides many services for individuals and their families. Its mission is to help individuals with intellectual disabilities achieve their full potential. IGHL offers over 50 residential programs, 25 day programs, and serves over 5,000 people with affiliate agencies across Long Island.
The Opportunity Center in Manorville, where Friday’s dinner and auction will take place, houses a dozen classrooms, a physical therapy center, a multi-purpose room, a kitchen, and administrative offices. According to IGHL, it is a place of “constant activity” where its members can engage in a variety of educational and recreational programming.
IGHL’s Manorville Opportunity Center is located at 221 North Sunrise Service Road in Manorville. For more information about IGHL, please visit www.ighl.org.
