For all the locals, regulars and numerous visitors that have wandered into Sylvester & Co. on Main Street in Sag Harbor to view the always interesting, eclectic and unusual items from home furnishings, books, artwork and clothing to textiles, soaps and candles, you may not be aware that the shop also offers brewed and non-brewed hot and cold coffee until the delicious smelling aromas hit your nose enticing one to try “Dreamy” (Sylvester’s hallmark single origin Peruvian beans with a hint of organic chocolate), a single origin Nicaraguan “Purist,” and a single origin Sumatra “Purist.”
Now discernible coffee drinkers can rejoice as there is something new brewing – those delicious cold coffees under their own company brand – Red Thread Good cold brew coffee.

According to owner, Lynda Sylvester, “I started making cold brew coffee in the back room of Sylvester & Co. People had never heard of cold brew, but they liked what they were drinking. Over the past five years, the Sylvester & Co. coffee bar started to go crazy, and I decided it was time to take ‘Dreamy’ past the Shinnecock Canal.”
Having convinced two friends to join her in this new endeavor, and relying on her loyal clientele as well as new coffee lover devotees, Red Thread Good has evolved into a growing business venture not only for Sylvester and gang, but for anyone who can also smell a good business opportunity for a company whose products are available in 175 stores throughout the Hamptons and New York City.
Why the clever company name? Sylvester explains, “We call the company Red Thread Good because we wanted an iconic red thread to connect us and everyone else. We chose ‘Good’ because we wanted a company with heart. We deliver the best in coffee, serve only organic and Fair Trade, and give back two cents for every serving sold to local charity, and we sell our signature cold brew, plus beans and biodegradable k-cups.”
Continuing, Sylvester revealed, “We have made miracles so far, and we’re now at a point where our miracles can turn into a serious beverage business. We’ve hired one of the beverage industry’s top execs to make it all happen. The company needs further funding to make it really fly and, before we go to strangers we’re turning first to our loyal friends and customers to offer a piece of the miracle.”
This well-known savvy businesswoman further offers up brew for thought: “This summer our cold brew was rated #1 in the country by Hearst’s bestproducts.com, and #2 in the country by The Huffington Post. We were picked up by one of the largest restaurant/hotel distributors nationwide and we will be their premier coffee provider. Recently, we were selected to be in the World Trade Center’s new transportation hub at Market Lane’s 11,000 square foot food emporium. We also have a café at American Express headquarters in New York City, where sales are up 30 percent over the Starbucks we replaced, and we are also at Morgan Stanley, Nielsen, and a host of other Fortune 100 companies.”
Asked what her future plans are for the brand, Sylvester relayed, “Coffee is just the beginning. We are in development on a host of other healthy, indulgent and addictive foods and beverages, including chocolates, cold bloom tisanes, and teas. All coming soon.”
