Sorry New York Jets and New York Giants fans, but it just wasn’t your year. While neither New York team has a chance to compete for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, we still think the matchup between Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers verses Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos will be an entertaining one. So sit back, sip on one of these cocktails and enjoy.
1. The Effen Vodka Beast:
Directions: Shake and strain all ingredients over fresh ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with brandied cherries.
2. Sack the Quarterback: (Created by Cassandra Rosen)
Directions: Combine all ingredients in a large punch bowl, stir. Top with orange slices, apple slices, cinnamon sticks, and star anise. Ladle into punch glasses, serve. Serves 20+.
3. Bronco Brew:
Directions: In a tall cocktail glass add orange juice and honey syrup, top with Sapporo beer and orange bitters. Stir gently with bar spoon and garnish with orange slice. (*Honey Syrup: in a small pot over medium heat, combine 1 cup honey and 1 cup water and stir lightly until dissolved)
4. Carolina Blue Julep:
Directions: To make mint ice cubes, tear up about 8 mint leaves and freeze with water the night before. Muddle six mint leaves, powdered sugar and seltzer water in a glass or cocktail shaker. Add Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Moscato and shake or stir lightly to mix. Add ice cubes to your serving glass, pour drink over the ice and garnish with the remaining mint. (Entertaining Tip: For a Carolina Panther’s inspired cocktail, muddle a 1/4 cup of blueberries with your mint leave mix.)
5. Jalapeño Endzone:
Directions: Muddle jalapeño in a glass with a salted rim, combine remainder of ingredients except Mexican lager in a shaker, shake vigorously, strain over fresh ice and add Mexican lager.
6. Bacardi Cuba Libre:
Directions: Fill a highball glass with ice. Then squeeze 2 lime wedges over the ice and drop them into the glass. Pour in the Bacardi Gold Rum, followed by chilled cola and give it all a gentle stir.
7. Jägermule Punch: (Created by Flinn Pomeroy, Sweetwater Social)
Directions: Combine Jägermeister, lime juice, and ginger syrup to punch bowl. Bring 5 cups of water to a boil and add 5 tea bags of Bigelow Orange & Spice. Remove water from heat and allow too steep for 6 minutes (You will have more tea brewed than you are actually going to use.) Add 35 oz. of Bigelow Orange and Spice tea to the punch bowl. Stir punch vigorously. Add soda to taste. Top entire punch with sliced orange discs. Serve over ice in traditional Mule Tins or in another receptacle of your choosing.
