Jump into the New Year with a splash at the 14th annual East Hampton Polar Bear Plunge to benefit the East End Food Pantry in its efforts to combat hunger in our community. Are you ready to plunge?
Rain or shine registration begins at 11:30 am on New Year’s Day at Main Beach East Hampton, with the plunge happening rain or shine at 1:00 pm. Donations are $40 per plunger, and 100% of proceeds are being donated to benefit the East Hampton Food Pantry.
Everyone is invited to participate in the plunge or to support the cause, Freezin’ for a Reason, and enjoy complimentary hot food and drinks donated by local partners (see complete list below).
There will be great merch for sale that you will want to take advantage of, and those who plunge will get a free shirt! Be sure to dress up as the prize for the best costume is a $100 gift card to Sen Restaurant in Sag Harbor. I’m sure some warm sake after a dip in the Atlantic in January.
The event is a favorite among Bonackers and has gained a considerable following over the past 14 years. And the financial impact has been tremendous. In 2022, The Polar Bear Plunge event raised over $20,000 to benefit local food pantries.
I am impressed to see how many repeat plungers there are. The past participants I spoke to describe plunging as “invigorating”, “clarifying”, and “cold”. A mother who plans to bring her daughter to her first plunge describes it as “a right of passage and a great way to connect with my daughter.”
Be sure to check out the East Hampton Polar Bear Plunge Facebook page for inspiration to make the plunge and to connect with fellow Polar-inclined people in East Hampton and around Long Island.
Tell your friends and family; it’s always more fun with more plungers and supporters! Spectators are welcome! You won’t want to miss out on a great event that supports a great cause.
