Growing up in East Hampton, I’ve had the privilege to dine at some of the most delectable restaurants. I recently purchased a home in Hampton Bays and am new to the dining scene. I pass the Canoe Place Inn every day on my way to work, and it was interesting to see their renovation process. Once they finally opened in July, I put their Good Ground Tavern at the top of the list of restaurants I needed to try.
My wife and I pulled to the valet and admired the luscious landscaping. The valet was very attentive and guided us inside the restaurant. He explained the outdoor dining area would be ready in a couple of days. A deck with a bar, tables, couches, and those twinkly lights that set up the night to have that romantic aura.
Once inside, we were greeted by the smiling and gracious hostess who showed us to our carefully and thoughtfully decorated table. In the middle of the table, a centerpiece bouquet of breadsticks! Decorative, elegant, and edible?! Stunning! I knew at that moment that this would be one of my favorite places.
I ordered my favorite drink, a margarita with a salted rim. We looked over the menu, and in traditional couple fashion, we decided on two entrees we would want to try. The Mrs. got the Summer Pasta with Lobster, and I ordered the Prime Steak Frites.
I know what you’re thinking (Prime Steak Frites? really?) I am a fan of the classics and am always intrigued by how every restaurant prepares them differently. The fries were crispy, and the steak was perfectly cooked and coated with a chimichurri sauce. We traded dishes as all couples do. The summer pasta’s charred corn, peppers, cherry tomatoes, Sigit cheese, and lobster were a match made in heaven.
I was pleasantly satiated, but when the waiter asked if we wanted dessert, I couldn’t help but say sure! I’m a fan of chocolate, so I ordered a Flourless Chocolate Cake. It was the Sumac Strawberries that I was excited to try. Sumac is a popular Middle Eastern Spice that combines the tanginess of freshly squeezed lemon juice and a hint of sweetness surrounded by floral notes. One spoonful of the delicate cake paired perfectly with the tangy and sweet strawberries.
Overall, the whole experience was lovely.
