A favorite event in the Hampton Bays area is the Hampton Bays Beautification Association’s annual Garden Party that raises funds to support the maintenance of the many gardens the organization has created — and continues to create — and maintain in town. In addition to caring for eight gardens, the organization also decorates the town for spring, autumn and Christmas.
HBBA’s projects include Welcome to Hampton Bays signs with flower gardens at the entrances to town, plantings in the median on Flanders Road and across from Canoe Place Inn, a flagpole and large trees on the corner of Main Street (one of which gets decorated for Christmas), trees along Main Street, and gardens at the entrance from Main Street to Good Ground Park. One of the newer projects is a garden at the post office which features seasonal flowers and a sculpture by a local artist. Along the train station are plantings of trees and flowers, including a majestic evergreen that gets decorated for the Christmas holidays. Over the years the organization has planted hundreds of planters and urns. Each year they provide and maintain flowering hanging baskets downtown along Main Street and the train station. In fall banners replace the baskets.
To support their work, HBBA holds a fundraising event at Oakland’s Restaurant. This year’s event happens Saturday, June 3 from 12:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
HBBA President Susan von Freddi notes that “The garden party has always been a favorite local event. Everyone looks forward to it every spring.”
