Hampton Lifeguard Association (HLA) will host their annual summer kick-off benefit event on Saturday, May 6th from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at The Clubhouse in East Hampton.
The non-profit, Hampton Lifeguard Association, is a 501(c)(3) that was formed in 1992. As a charter member of the non-profit United States Lifesaving Association, which is a professional association of beach lifeguards and open water rescuers setting national standards for lifesaving, the Hampton Lifeguard Association upholds these same values. HLA includes programs like lifeguard training, a junior lifeguard program, a volunteer ocean rescue squad, the East Hampton YMCA Hurricane Swim Club, swim programs, and competitions. President and Chief Lifeguard of HLA, John Ryan Jr. spoke about the mission of HLA and what their annual summer kick-off benefit is all about.
John says that the mission of Hampton Lifeguard Association is first and foremost “to waterproof Long Island’s South Fork and beyond through education and training.” He went on to say, “In order to promote the safe use and enjoyment of our many water resources in all communities, we provide assistance and participation in water safety programs and lifeguard activities that maintain the well-being for its members and the surrounding communities. We uphold a high standard of lifeguarding through training and lifeguard competitions for all age group programs.”
The summer kick-off benefit is a way to celebrate and welcome the summer season in the Hamptons. John says that the benefit “sparks awareness to the many programs that help to waterproof this community.”
Along with the education and consciousness promoted by the benefit, it’s a day of fun where attendees can gather for food, drinks, live music, and socialization. There will be a chance auction and silent auction throughout the event featuring gift certificates to local businesses, spa treatments, gift baskets, trips, and more. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, along with half priced mini golf, bowling, and arcade games offered to HLA event attendees. John says, “[the kick-off event] brings together the families and friends that many of us have not seen since the end of the previous summer. It is a renewal of friendships and families that support the same passion of a water-safe community.”
This is the only fundraising event that Hampton Lifeguard Association holds throughout the year, making it that much more special and impactful when it comes to promoting their mission. John says, “The Town, Village, and YMCA RECenter programs have grown with the support of our local governments. The fundraising helps to support the progression of the programs and helps fund the purchasing of additional equipment necessary for the growth.” The community continues their unparalleled support of HLA, and the organization hopes that more and more will continue to get involved in the cause of water safety and lifeguarding each year. Children are encouraged to enroll in the Town and Village and YMCA RECenter swim programs, including the summer nipper and junior lifeguard programs.
With the summer season just around the corner here in the Hamptons, this is a great way to celebrate a fun-filled summer ahead and a key reminder about the importance of safety in the water. Head out for a day of fun at The Clubhouse in East Hampton on Saturday, May 6th, and support a meaningful mission on the East End!
