Katy’s Courage will be hosting their eleventh annual skate-a-thon and bake sale winter fundraiser at Buckskill Winter Club in East Hampton on Saturday, February 25th beginning at 12:15 p.m. and going all day long.
Katy’s Courage is a non-profit organization that honors Katy Stewart, a precious little girl who inspired all who knew her throughout her short lifetime before she passed away of a rare pediatric cancer at 12 years young.
Katy’s parents Jim Stewart and Brigid Collins have kept her memory alive through their fundraising efforts, and since they began Katy’s Courage organization in 2012, they have dedicated their mission to education and support for families and children through scholarships, children’s bereavement support, and pediatric cancer research. Jim says, “We are an ever-growing organization with a dedicated focus to expanding our abilities and resources to provide help for those who need it.”
The Skate-a-thon has been an anticipated annual event in the Hamptons community year after year. It was started by the DeGroot family, the owners of Buckskill Winter Club. Their daughters Annabel and Harriet were close friends of Katy’s, making this event truly special and close to the Hamptons community heart.
Katy’s Courage hosts fundraising events throughout the whole year with unmatched support. Jim says, “We have been fortunate to have a direct relationship with all of the fundraising events and our generous sponsors. They have all been started by friends. They are all vital to the support of our efforts.”
Katy’s Courage will host their annual Love Bites Fundraiser in early March, and they will also be holding their annual 5K race fundraiser event in April. Katy’s Courage is always active in their efforts with an array of different events year-round. When asked about how important the East End has been in supporting their fundraising endeavors, Jim said, “We think what makes these events unique would be the local support and organization by our friends. All of the events are made special by friends and family.”
Be on the lookout for Katy’s Courage events throughout the year, all of which are always a fun time, great success, and for an important cause in honor of Katy Stewart’s memory. Jim says, “We will continue to support grieving children and families facing the death of a loved one.”
On February 25th, the winter fundraiser will consist of a bake sale that eventgoers will have the chance to stop by for treats and a raffle drawing. There will be a kids hockey game early in the day and an adult hockey game in the evening. Pre-registration is required for both games, and participants may register by emailing [email protected] or calling the club directly at 631-324-2243. There will also be a basic skills and snowplow event, a puck throw, ice show in the evening, and of course public skating for the skate-a-thon!
So, it’s time to lace up the skates, indulge in some delicious baked goods, and keep all the families who need community support in mind at this fun event on Saturday that will surely be a success for its eleventh year.
