The chaos in our world is evident, which is why now more than ever maintaining a balance in life is essential. Tammy Fender is a renowned holistic wellness pioneer who focuses on guided meditations and other helpful strategies. Apart from her incredibly effective meditation sessions, Fender created a line of holistic products that remedy through the skin. The ultimate goal through her products and work is to transform individuals’ whole beings.
Throughout the past few months, Fender has focused on virtual meditation sessions, but otherwise she practices in her living laboratory – a serene sanctuary that is designed to nurture the complexion, body and spirit.
Fender has also previously recorded a film of her journey through France, exploring medieval gardens, her private home garden, and the importance of the plant kingdom.
We spoke with Fender about her practice during this uneasy time for the world and some of her personal recommendations on how others can practice a holistic mindset.
It seems like more than ever meditation is needed to re-center ourselves in the chaos of the world. Can you speak a bit about your practice and how you utilize meditation in your everyday life?
TF: For me, meditation is essential. It’s not just something I do when I’m stressed. It’s an important part of my everyday life. I use it differently at different times, however. When I’m completely overwhelmed, sometimes I just repeat a single word, or a short phrase as a mantra, such as “I am at peace” or “all is well.” Something in this technique allows the subconscious mind to release and relax, and I’ve seen that work for a lot of people. At other times, through silent meditation, I’ve been more available to feel through the emotions, or disturbances, and that is also incredibly valuable. Silence and awareness gets down to the roots. But I also use visualization, especially before bed, bringing my attention to my breath and my physical body and then envisioning a white cleansing light sweeping through my body. I find that very relaxing. And, of course, I also love to connect with nature through quiet awareness. When I’m in nature, and staying very present, that is also a form of meditation.
Let’s go back to the start. What did the early stages of meditation look like for you and how did you know it needed to be an essential part of your life?
TF: Truly, I started my meditation practice during my early days as an aesthetician. Working with clients, I was so attuned to their stiffness, not just physically, but emotionally, and I felt there was another level that I needed to access in order to help them relax. I got into meditation to benefit my clients, but, of course, this has been a huge gift in my life, because through that giving I have received so much. Daily meditation has been part of my healing work for 25 years.
How can Hamptons community members stay connected with you these summer months whether it be through meditation sessions or the products you sell?
TF: This summer I will continue to offer online guided meditations. Sign up for our newsletter or follow on Instagram and let’s keep in touch.
